Journal #18 The Accordion. Close to the chest, pressed to the heart, the most expressive sounds emerge
Close to the chest, pressed to the heart, the most expressive sounds emerge – with no surprise. There’s a body dance that follows the notes played at the same time, a response to the pressure of various keys and buttons, like a one-man orchestra.
It’s under the carob tree in his backyard that Luís Barradinhas most enjoys playing the accordion, giving wings to his Algarvian soul.An accordionist born in Silves 61 years ago, he has been playing since childhood, influenced by his father and grandfather, who also played the accordion.
Luis Barradinhas has performed among friends and in front of large audiences, and this year at the Open House - Harvest Party, he will be accompanied by another accordionist and a guitar player, making his accordion shine — sometimes sweet and sentimental, other times frenetic and restless, capable of expressing a chilling melodic beauty from within.
At Morgado do Quintão, we are thrilled to give stage to this instrument, which also represents the music and soul of the Algarve. Luís Barradinhas will share his soul and culture with everyone, in the best possible setting – gathered around the table, celebrating the purpose of life, and ideally listening the “Corridinho”, his favorite music for partying.
